Some people argue about whether a hotdog on a bun is a sandwich or not. Well, sorry to break it to you, but hotdogs are indeed s a n d w i c h e s . Would you consider Jimmy Johns’ and Subway’s subs sandwiches? Your answer should be yes and I would have to agree with you. With sandwiches, you have the option to choose what goes on it, just like a hotdog. You can put lettuce, cheese, bacon, onions, ketchup, mustard, mayo and so much more on your sandwiches. But guess what, you can do that too on your hotdogs! On your hotdogs, you can put ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, onions, cheese and a lot more just like you would on your sandwich. A lot of people always say hotdogs are not sandwiches because the hot dog is not in between two pieces of bread. Jimmy Johns and Subway have the same pieces of bread as hotdogs do, but then people call those sandwiches. There is nothing special to it: hotdogs are sandwiches because they share the same properties as sandwiches. If that was not enough to show you hotdogs are sandwiches, The U.S. Department of Agriculture describes a sandwich as, “a meat or poultry filling between two slices of bread, a bun, or a biscuit”. By definition, it is pretty clear that hotdogs are sandwiches. To add on, if it is the bread part of the hotdog that everyone is worried about, you can get pre-cut hot dog buns at the store. This proves that people are willing to buy special cut bread for their hotdogs, just as there would for sandwiches. Another thing is if hot dogs were not sandwiches, then why would they be listed under the sandwich section at some restaurants! At The Flying Wienie, under their sandwich section of the menu, burgers, sub and hotdogs are listed. The Chicago Dog, Bacon Cheese Dog and many more choices! Also, if those restaurants wanted to, they could have made a whole new section on their menu just for hotdogs. But they did not, because hotdogs fall under the category of sandwiches. At the end of the day, people just put way too much effort into something that has a simple answer and should not be fought over. Hotdogs have all the same properties as sandwiches and they can even be customized just like sandwiches. After hearing all the evidence I have just shown you, we can now, without a doubt, fully conclude that hotdogs are sandwiches.
