The blink of an eye

Everyone always says high school flies by in the blink of an eye. You never realize just how quickly that is until you wake up one day and it’s the winter of your senior year and you have no clue where the last three years have gone.

As a freshman, the days drag on and the nights seem endless. A new school, new people, new traditions and new experiences all wait for the bright-eyed freshmen. Not everything that awaits the innocent freshman is good, though. Freshman year also brings a new workload, new challenges, new pressures and temptations. When is this going to end?

At some point, sophomore year rolls around and finally you’re no longer the baby of the school. No longer do you sprint down the hallways during a five minute passing period to get to class as you’ve realized those five minutes are a lot longer than you originally thought. Instead, you relax a bit and let things fall where they may, as sophomore year is easily the most chill year of high school. “I’m almost halfway done,” you think.

Like all good things,  the luxury of sophomore year ends and you are abruptly thrown into the role of being an upperclassman,   having to deal with upperclassmen stressors like the ACT, SAT, AP classes, the college admission process and *gasp* chemistry! Junior year, to say the least, is a dumpster fire. The overwhelming amount of homework, combined with the lack of sleep is the perfect breeding ground for stress and worry. “I can’t wait to get out of here,” you think.

Somehow, someway, you get through the most dreaded year of high school and you’re finally a big bad senior, taking senior pictures to post on Instagram for #SeniorSunday.

These past three years haven’t felt like three years. They’ve flown by so quickly, way faster than I ever expected. I’m almost done.

Looking back, seniors, you realize high school wasn’t all that bad. Sure, you may have lost a couple of friends and made a few mistakes over the past few years, but in the end, everything that’s happened to you has made you who you were meant to become and you’re left wondering: “Where did the time go?” Time really does fly by in the blink of an eye.
