Royal-tea drama

Changes are happening in Europe and some people are royally upset.
On Wednesday, January 8, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, announced that they were giving up their royal titles and state funding. They wanted tobecome financially independentwhile still supporting Queen Elizabeth II. They also plan to split their time between North America and England.
The last time someone was to step down from the throne was in 1936. Edward VIII abdicated the throne and forfeited the crown to marry Wallis Simpson, a divorcee. This, in turn, put Elizabeth II in line for the throne. Traditionally, the only way a person leaves royal duties is because of poor health or divorce, no one, until this point, has decided otherwise.
“The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly,” Prince Harry said. “It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option.”
One large reason as to why the Sussexes decided to leave was to protect their son, Archie, from any harm. Prince Harry stated heknowsthisisthebestdecision for the safety of his family.
“Today, my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,” Queen Elizabeth II said. “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
Though there still may be tensions for a while, the Sussexes are going to continue to support the Queen.
Even without the royal funding, they are going to continue doing relief work and do what they can to support the community. According to Prince Harry, this remains the best arrangement for them currently in order for them to ensure the safety of their family and still help others.
