With the adaptation of the President-Principal Model and the implementation of block scheduling for the 2018-2019 school year, it is evident that Xavier is constantly changing. The creation of the President-Principal Model promoted Mr. Tom Keating from principal to president, thus opening up the principal position. After a search and interview process, the Xavier High School Board of Education announced on Tuesday, April 24, that current Associate Principal Angela Olson will begin the principal role for the 2018-2019 school year.

Ms. Olson will miss the role she has held for the last seven years but is ready to tackle this position head-on.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to lead the school by working with an outstanding faculty and staff that believe strongly in the potential of the Saints,” Olson said. “I am also looking forward to seeing and being a part of how Xavier will continue to grow.”

Although there is a lot of excitement, there is also a lot of planning for challenges that Olson will confront during her transition.

“Instead of being in a supportive role, my role will be leading the school,” Olson said. “I think the biggest challenge will be leading and having the responsibility of making decisions that best benefit the school and the students.”

Despite the fast approaching difficulties, Olson looks to use Keating as a resource.

“Mr. Keating has been a great mentor,” Olson said. “I have learned a lot about faith, leadership, keeping perspective, and how schools operate. I owe a lot to him for showing me what it means to be a great leader and supporting me along the way.”

However, Keating is unconcerned about Olson’s capabilities in taking on this new position.

“I am confident she will continue to make our students’ faith journey a priority at Xavier,” Keating said. “She has been involved with our school for seven years and has developed a wonderful network with students, faculty, staff, parents, pastors, alumni and friends of Xavier.”

Olson is looking forward to using her knowledge and passion for Xavier and its people, to continue to move the school forward. This new chapter for Olson and Xavier begins when the position becomes effective on July 1, 2018.
