O’Shea fulfills senior bucket list

For many people, their life goal is to check everything off of their bucket list. Senior Alexa O’Shea took this a step further and created a bucket list for her senior year.

O’Shea’s bucket list includes playing a new sport, being involved in a musical, learning to play an instrument, taking a class for fun, and many more.

“The summer after my junior year I was looking at my classmates’ old photos, and it hit me that I had gone to school with these people for 13 years,” O’Shea said. “I was disappointed in myself because I did not know some of the people better than I did in kindergarten.”

This realization inspired O’Shea to start her bucket list. She pushed herself outside of her comfort zone in order to get to know all of her classmates.

“Alexa has always been open to try new things, but since she participated in three sports, it was hard for her to explore new things,” former basketball teammate, senior Kiley McAleer said.

O’Shea decided to fulfill her goal of trying a new sport and went out for bowling.

“The only time I had been bowling was when I was very little and I put my ball on top of this big slide thing and just pushed my ball off of it and watched it roll down the lane, hitting the bumpers all the way down,” O’Shea said. “I truly am the epitome of beginner.”

For many, it would not be easy trying a new sport as a senior, but O’Shea is determined to make the most of it.

“Alexa has made so many new friends from bowling,” track teammate, senior Rachel Sodawasser said. “I love going to watch her, and see how much she improves every time.”

O’Shea and the rest of the girls’ bowling team are back in action on Friday, January 26 at May City Bowl against Cedar Rapids Jefferson at 3:45 p.m.
