Pinning down goals for a new season
November 29, 2017
New seasons bring new goals and an empty mat for success. The Xavier wrestling team looks to fill the gap this season.
The Saints will return two state qualifiers to the wrestling team this season: senior Keegan Schultschik and junior Patrick Chambers. They will welcome back junior letterwinners Isaac Ball, Kyle Krezek, and Garrett Ries. The Saints are also excited to see capable freshmen on the mat this season.
“My initial goal for the season is to get the guys back into wrestling shape after a great football season,” Coach Ryan Chambers said.
Even with a younger team, the Saints still hope to have individuals qualify for the state meet.
“As always, I hope to help each individual get better by improving their skill set and allowing them to qualify and place at the state meet,” Coach Chambers said.
The Xavier wrestling team is a community and the boys grow closer throughout the season.
“I am excited to be back with the wrestling team,” Ball said. “We become closer during the winter, and we all have a special bond throughout the season.”
The Saints wrestle tonight, Thursday, November 30, at home in a double duel against Liberty and Washington High Schools, starting at 5:30 p.m. They wrestle again in the Independence Tournament on Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2.
