Respect the Turkey

October is all about awaiting the big day, the 31st. We hang up decorations, find the scariest costume, go to haunted houses, and prepare for the large amounts of candy we are about to eat. We spend so much time preparing for this day and it’s over faster than you can say “boo”. Soon enough, it’s November 1st and the decorations are taken down, halloween costumes are put away for the next year, and we have stomach aches from all the candy we ate.
Now, you might think it’s time to prepare for Thanksgiving but if you are like 99% of the people in the world you might forget about Thanksgiving and jump straight into Christmas. I’d like to think that I am that 1%. I absolutely despise listening to Christmas music before December 1st, I refuse to go to the mall during the month of November so I’m not bombarded with Christmas decorations, and I believe Christmas lights should be put away until the month of December.
My favorite thing to do for Thanksgiving break is to drive to Georgia with my mom to visit my grandma and spend time with her by playing board games. We spend the days leading up to thanksgiving day by preparing the food and making several trips to Walmart. On Thanksgiving day, my whole family gathers at my grandma’s and we have a huge feast. I don’t get to see my family that often so this day is spent catching up with each other and cherishing the time we have.
Christmas is great and I would be lying if I said it wasn’t my favorite holiday, but we need to take a step back and think about now and not what’s in the future. This month is all about being thankful and making room in your stomach for the Thanksgiving feast. Save the Christmas music and decorations for December and take this month to spend time with your friends and family.
