Bring it on the musical

Elizabeth Janey, A&E Writer

Bring it on brings the start of drama season at Xavier High School. Not gossip and rumors, but musicals, plays, and after school rehearsals. This year, Xavier High School is putting on a production of Bring It On The Musical. The musical is loosely based on the 2000 film Bring It On and focuses on the competitive world of cheerleading. It follows protagonist Campbell Davis as she faces the challenges of having to switch schools, compete against old friends, and start a cheer squad in a reluctant environment. Ms. Sarah Hayes is in her second year of directing.

“It is a very contemporary show with a nice blend of hip hop, pop, and dance music,” Hayes said. “This year we hope to continue to grow the drama program, involve new people, experiment with new genres, and have a lot of fun.”

The musical is choreographed by Katherine Gales and Libby Dunnigan and features a variety of female and male roles. In addition to acting roles, there are various technical and backstage positions. Students are able to assist in costume and set design, lighting, and in the pit. Among the cast is senior Erin Pitz.

“I’m really excited for this year,” Pitz said. “I really like how there are a lot of different parts for girls with solo singing, and I think Ms. Hayes’ second year will be even better than her first!”

Performances will take place in the Regis-LaSalle Theater with the following show times: November 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. and November 13 at 2 p.m.
